Molasses Sugar Cookies
Recipe type: Cookie
What You Will Need
  • ¾ Cup butter flavored shortening
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • ¼ Cup Brer Rabbit Molasses (I'm sure you can use other kinds of molasses, but when a family recipe calls for a specific brand, you best be using it!)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
What You Do
  1. Begin by melting the shortening in a small saucepan over low heat.  Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Add sugar, molasses, and egg to a bowl and mix well.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.  Slowly add to the molasses mixture.  Mix well.
  4. Chill for about 20 minutes.
  5. Form in to 1" balls, roll in sugar and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or lightly greased.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-9 minutes.
